You can experience horse riding; canoeing; golf; mini golf; swimming - both pool (Riberac & Verteillac) and riverbeach (Aubterre); walking and historical/architectural interest within easy reach of the house.  A few miles away is a dedicated watersports area at La Jemaye which is right in the heart of the Forêt de la Double; Le Grande Etang, a made made lake,  is surrounded by a nature trail, exercise and work out track and fishing lakes.  The lake hosts supervised swimming and watersports and there are three cafe/restaurants. Parking is free and plentiful.

In many of the local towns/large villages you can find restaraunts serving a lunchtime 'menu of the day' usually  five courses with wine included for around 12 euros!  The nearest to the house is in St Martial Viveyrol and can be thouroughly recommended. 

The nearest coastal beach is 100kms, but is worth the drive to visit the entensive and beautifully kept beaches around Royan. 

Bergerac airport (Stansted, Luton and East Midlands) is approx 1 hours drive;  Recently opened Angouleme (Stansted) is about 45 minutes and the port of Calais some 500 miles (8 hours driving depending on traffic and weather conditions). Alternative airports are Bordeaux (Gatwick, Stansted, Luton) and Limoge (Stansted) both are approximately 1 hour 45 minutes drive.
